Have you read any books on writing that you found helpful?
Never Say You Can’t Survive by Charlie Jane Anders is a good one I read pretty recently. It’s about using fiction both as an escape from and as a commentary on reality, and it has a ton of really interesting ideas about worldbuilding and what kind of characters are interesting and also about emotional and less technical aspects of writing. I’d say it’s definitely worth a read. Also, it has really good writing exercises.
Spilling Ink by Anne Mazer and Ellen Potter is also one I really like. It’s also meant for like, 12 year olds though. I liked Writing Magic by Gail Carson Levine as well, but it’s also for kids.
I remember really liking Conversations on writing by Ursula K. LeGuin, but I don’t 100% remember why. She’s very articulate though. I stole the quote about using the right word, not the big word, from her.
There’s also Story Genius, by Lisa Cron, which is about how brains react to stories.
Bird by Bird was also good, but it’s famous so I’m probably not adding anything. Sin and Syntax is also good.
I’ve read a lot of books about writing, and after a while they tend to blend together so I’m sure there’s some I just forgot about.
